Danish coach Jess Thorup expressed his delight after Al Ahly’s 3–1 victory over Wadi Degla in the Egyptian Premier League, stressing that winning remains the most important thing in football.
He noted that his team have now secured two key results since the end of the Africa Cup of Nations, beating Young Africans in the CAF Champions League before overcoming Wadi Degla in the league.
Thorup felt Al Ahly fully deserved both victories, praising the team’s overall display while admitting the downside was conceding a goal. He reserved special credit for goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy, highlighting a vital first-half save at 0–0, and underlined his confidence in both El Shenawy and Mostafa Shobeir in the battle for the starting spot.
The coach also welcomed the bright start of new striker Marwan Othman, who joined from Ceramica Cleopatra and scored his first goal for the club. Drawing on his own experience as a former centre forward, Thorup said he knows how much that first goal means and believes this is only the beginning for the young attacker.
On transfers, Thorup made clear his focus is on the current squad, confirming that winter-window discussions with club officials will remain “behind closed doors” as he works on reintegrating returning internationals into a slightly adjusted tactical system.
