Paris Maghoma has completed a permanent transfer to Sky Bet Championship side Norwich City, bringing to an end a long and varied spell with Brentford that spanned youth development, multiple loan moves, and a late Premier League breakthrough.

The 24-year-old midfielder, who is of Congolese descent, now takes the next step of his career at Carrow Road, where regular football at Championship level awaits.

Maghoma first joined Brentford in January 2020 and went on to make 10 senior appearances across all competitions. His early years were largely shaped within the club’s B team structure, where he played a key role in the side that lifted the London Senior Cup in the 2021/22 season.

That progress was rewarded with promotion to the first-team setup the following summer, along with a new contract.

Loans shape his development

To accelerate his growth, Brentford sent Maghoma out on loan during the 2022/23 campaign. He spent the first half of the season at AFC Wimbledon in League Two before stepping up to League One with MK Dons in January.

Those experiences provided him with valuable exposure to senior football and different tactical demands.

The midfielder truly found momentum during the 2023/24 season with Bolton Wanderers. Maghoma became a central figure for the Trotters, making 50 appearances in all competitions, scoring nine goals, and registering seven assists.

His influence and consistency were recognised when he was named Bolton’s Young Player of the Year, despite the season ending in disappointment with a play-off final defeat to Oxford United at Wembley.

Late breakthrough at Brentford

Maghoma’s perseverance was eventually rewarded with senior opportunities at Brentford. He made his Premier League debut as a second-half substitute against Aston Villa in December 2024, before earning his first full start the following month in an FA Cup third-round tie against Plymouth Argyle.

Brentford head coach Keith Andrews paid tribute to the midfielder’s qualities and decision to move on, saying: “There’s no doubting Paris’s ability. He’s a very talented young player who has probably been frustrated with a lack of game time and is at an age now where he really needs to go and play football.

“His talent should allow him to have a really good career, so we wish Paris really well at a very good club.”
