2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON0 champions Ivory Coast are set to take on Steve Clarke’s Scotland in an international friendly at Everton’s Hill Dickinson Stadium on 31 March, as both sides step up preparations for the upcoming World Cup.

The match is scheduled to kick off at 19:30 BST in Liverpool, offering fans an early glimpse of the new English top-flight venue.

Emerse Faé’s side will compete against Ecuador, Germany and Curaçao in the group stage of the World Cup, with the Elephants aiming to build momentum following their AFCON success.

Ivory Coast, who reached the quarter-finals of the recent Africa Cup of Nations, are among the teams taking part in this year’s global showpiece.

Scotland head coach Steve Clarke welcomed the challenge, stressing the importance of quality opposition in their build-up.

“We wanted to face African opposition before we play Morocco in the summer, and I’m sure Côte d’Ivoire will give us a really stern test,” Clarke said.

“It will also be good to play at the Hill Dickinson Stadium in Liverpool. The supporters will enjoy the opportunity to visit the new stadium.”

Scotland begin their World Cup campaign against Haiti in Boston on 14 June, before facing Morocco and Brazil in their remaining group matches.
