Al-Masry coach Nabil Kouki expressed satisfaction after his team held Zamalek to a goalless draw on Sunday evening.
The Tunisian tactician described the match as challenging on both technical and tactical fronts, noting that it was a significant contest for both sides.
“The match was very difficult on a technical and tactical level, and I think it was special for both teams,” Kouki said after the game.
Kouki admitted his side had chances to win the game but rued a lack of finishing and focus.
“The most important thing for us is to qualify for the next round and successfully get through the group stage. We had many opportunities during the Zamalek match and we could have scored, but we were unlucky and our players lacked focus.”
He also praised Zamalek’s stature in African football, but insisted the draw was a positive result for Al-Masry.
“We are taking it one step at a time in this African championship, and Zamalek is certainly one of the biggest teams in Africa, but it must be emphasised that a draw is satisfactory for us, and it is important for us that we are still in the lead, but we had hoped to achieve more,” he added.
