Zamalek defender Mahmoud Hamdi “El Wensh” has revealed that the club has been preparing intensely for their upcoming African Confederation Cup clash with Al Masry.
Speaking at the pre-match press conference, El Wensh said the recent League Cup fixtures were used as preparation for the continental encounter.
He added that with the return of the international players, the squad is now fully focused and aiming for victory.
“The League Cup matches were designed to get us ready for the Al Masry game in the Confederation Cup,” he explained. “Now that our international players have returned, we are all fully prepared and hoping to win.”
The centre-back acknowledged the club’s current struggles but stressed that the players are taking responsibility and fighting to earn their places in the starting lineup.
“Zamalek is going through a tough period,” El Wensh admitted. “Everyone is stepping up, showing they deserve to be part of the team and compete for a starting role.”
On the impact of the international break, El Wensh said it was uncertain whether the squad would benefit, due to the absence of key players who were away with their national teams or sidelined by injury.
However, he noted that the team has recently regained its international stars and is now ready for the challenge.
“We cannot say for sure whether the international break will help us because some important players were away or injured,” he said. “But we have received our internationals back in the last few days, and everyone is ready. Our aim is to win.”
Zamalek will face Al Masry tomorrow, Sunday, at the Army Stadium in Borg El Arab in the third round of the group stage of the African Confederation Cup.
