Egyptian Minister of Youth and Sports Ashraf Sobhi has praised Morocco’s successful organisation of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, describing it as a reflection of the strong and historic ties between the two countries.
His remarks came during a telephone conversation with Mohamed Saad Barada, Morocco’s Minister of National Education, Early Childhood Education and Sports.
During the exchange, both ministers reaffirmed the deep-rooted fraternal and historical relations linking Egypt and Morocco, noting that their cooperation spans decades across several sectors, particularly youth and sports. They emphasised that sporting competition should always remain within a civilised framework grounded in mutual respect and sportsmanship.
The call formed part of ongoing coordination efforts aimed at maintaining a calm atmosphere among fans. Both sides emphasised that sport should serve as a bridge for bringing people together, rather than a source of division, stressing its role as an effective form of soft power in strengthening relations, fostering understanding, and supporting cooperation between sister nations.
Ashraf Sobhi specifically commended Morocco for the successful hosting of the Africa Cup of Nations, while firmly rejecting any forms of fanaticism or abuse that could harm the distinguished relations between the two countries or tarnish the image of Arab supporters.
In response, the Moroccan minister welcomed the communication, expressing the Atlas Lions’ appreciation for the strategic ties with Egypt. He reaffirmed Morocco’s commitment to supporting initiatives that promote Arab brotherhood and encourage the spread of positive values among young people across the region.
