Fédération Camerounaise de Football (FECAFOOT) President Samuel Eto’o Fils has congratulated Senegal following their victory at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Teranga Lions clinched the title with a dramatic 1-0 win over hosts Morocco at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium on Sunday.
Villarreal midfielder Pape Gueye sealed the victory with a stunning strike in extra time, after Morocco’s Brahim Diaz missed a crucial penalty that could have decided the match.
In an interview with France24, the former Barcelona, Inter Milan and Chelsea striker praised Senegal’s performance, saying: “Allow me first to congratulate Senegal, who truly deserve their victory, both the players and the supporters. This group went out and earned their win.”
Eto’o also addressed the controversial moments that occurred during the final, stating that FECAFOOT will work to improve the institution to prevent similar incidents in the future.
“Regarding the incidents that marked this final, we will work to improve our institution so that we no longer see such images, because I believe everything that happened could have been avoided.
He further clarified that he was not placing blame on CAF, adding: “I am not accusing CAF; otherwise, I would be accusing myself, since I am among those who have the privilege of making decisions for our football,” he added.
