Mohamed Salah has written another chapter in Egypt’s football history by overtaking defensive legend Wael Gomaa in the country’s all time caps list.
The Liverpool star reached 115 international appearances during the third place AFCON 2025 match against Nigeria in Morocco, moving into seventh place.
Gomaa, one of the pillars of Egypt’s golden generation, previously held that spot with 114 caps, but now slips to eighth following Salah’s latest outing. According to French outlet Stats Foot, Salah continues to close in on several other icons, with Hany Ramzy next ahead of him on 122 appearances.
The all time record remains some way off, with Ahmed Hassan leading the list on 184 caps, followed by Hossam Hassan (177), Essam El Hadary (159), Ahmed Fathi (135) and Ibrahim Hassan (131). Even so, Salah’s steady rise reflects both his longevity and enduring importance to the Pharaohs.
Egypt, who lost 1–0 to Senegal in the semi finals before facing Nigeria for bronze, may have fallen short of the title in Morocco, but their captain’s latest milestone underlines his status among the national team’s true greats.
