CAF president Patrice Motsepe has hailed the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco as the most successful edition in the history of the tournament.
Motsepe praised the high standard of football on display, noting that it attracted admiration from renowned coaches and football legends across the world.
Addressing the media at a press conference on Saturday, he highlighted the global attention the tournament received.
“We always succeed when our football is beautiful. I point out that Mbappe came here to Morocco, Zidane also, Kounde and other players. We are very proud that they came and supported the best players in Africa,” he said.
Beyond the action on the pitch, Motsepe emphasised the importance of organisation and infrastructure in shaping the tournament’s success.
“The level of football was wonderful, as were the infrastructure, stadiums, and services. On behalf of 54 federations, we express our gratitude to His Majesty King Mohammed VI, to his government, and to the people of Morocco, as well as to the work done by our brother Fouzi Lekjaa.
“This makes ordinary people say that the hospitality and warmth of the Moroccan people are beautiful, and my Moroccan friends tell me this is part of their culture, something truly special,” he added.
The 2025 AFCON will now conclude today with Morocco clashing with Senegal for supremacy at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, with kick-off scheduled at 19:00 GMT.
