Morocco and Senegal will write a new chapter in African football history when they meet in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final in Rabat on Sunday, 18 January at 7 p.m. GMT.
Remarkably, this is the first time the Atlas Lions and the Teranga Lions have faced each other at any stage of AFCON, adding extra intrigue to an already high-stakes occasion.
Morocco’s path to the final has showcased both attacking flair and defensive control. They beat Comoros 2–0, Zambia 3–0 and drew 1–1 with Mali in the group stage, before edging Tanzania 1–0 in the round of 16, dispatching Cameroon 2–0 in the quarter-finals and overcoming Nigeria on penalties after a 0–0 draw in the semi-finals.
Senegal have been just as efficient, topping their group with wins over Botswana and Benin, both 3–0, plus a 1–1 draw against DR Congo. Pape Thiaw’s side then knocked out Sudan 3–1, Mali 1–0 and Egypt 1–0, each time doing just enough to move on.
With two in-form champions colliding for a first-ever AFCON meeting, fans can expect a tense, memorable showpiece in Rabat.
