A heated exchange erupted between Egypt team director Ibrahim Hassan and a Moroccan journalist during the pre match press conference for the third place playoff between Egypt and Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

In a video widely shared online, Hassan is seen challenging the journalist by saying: “Have you won any championships? You waited 50 years to win the continental title.”

The press conference took place on the eve of Egypt’s clash with Nigeria, which will decide third place in the tournament. Morocco, meanwhile, have reached the final, where they will face Senegal on Sunday as they chase a long awaited second AFCON crown. The Atlas Lions’ only previous title came in 1976, meaning Moroccan fans have been waiting around half a century to celebrate another continental triumph.

Under coach Walid Regragui, Morocco hope to finally end that drought and lift the trophy on home soil, while Egypt head into their bronze medal match still hurting from a narrow 1-0 defeat to Senegal in the semi finals.
