Egypt coach Hossam Hassan has expressed satisfaction with the performance of the team despite missing out on final at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Pharaohs hope of securing their eighth AFCON title took a nosedive on Wednesday after succumbing to a 1-0 defeat to Senegal in a high-stake semi-final showdown.
Sadio Mane’s 78th-minute strike was enough for the Taranga Lions to secure a place in the final, while Egypt settles for the third-place fixture.
Egypt will now take on Nigeria in the third-place game, scheduled for Saturday, January 17, 2026 at the Mohammed V Stadium in Casablanca.
Despite failing to reach the final, Hossam Hassan has expressed satisfaction with the performance of the team.
“I am satisfied with our performance in the tournament. We have a strong team and this tournament is the best preparation for the World Cup.”
“Our results are good compared to the market value of our players, and our players worked hard, which helped us reach the semi-finals. Of course, we hoped to play for the championship cup.”
“Every team has its strengths and weaknesses. We will work on the strengths and address the weaknesses. We will build on what we presented during the African Championship, and we will support our strengths during the World Cup and have a stronger performance both defensively and offensively. Every match and every opponent has a specific style of play.”
“I am satisfied with the team’s performance and our overall performance in the tournament. The number of goals we scored and conceded shows that we performed well, and we were affected by injuries, such as Mohamed Hamdi, who suffered a cruciate ligament injury a few months before the World Cup.”
Egypt are the record holders of the Africa Cup of Nations (7 trophies), with their last success coming in 2010 against Ghana.
