Former Ghana captain Asamoah Gyan has revealed Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen as his favourite striker in modern football.

Osimhen, currently plying his trade with Galatasaray, has established himself as one of Africa and Europe’s most lethal forwards. With 35 goals for the Super Eagles, he is closing in on Rashidi Yekini’s all-time scoring record for Nigeria.

Speaking in an interview with Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand, Gyan praised Osimhen’s style and passion.

“Victor Osimhen, He loves scoring goals, and he plays with the heart, you know, gives everything,” Gyan said.

The 40-year-old Ghanaian legend also expressed surprise that the Nigerian forward has not yet attracted interest from Europe’s biggest clubs, while hinting at his hope that Osimhen could one day join Manchester United.

“I like those kinds of strikers, and I’m surprised the big clubs didn’t come for him this transfer window.

“But hopefully I’m feeling for Manchester United too. If only he wanted to come because of their history and everything. If only he wants to come,” he added.

Osimhen is set to feature in Nigeria’s third-place playoff against Egypt at the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Casablanca this Saturday.

Gyan retired as Ghana’s all-time leading scorer with 51 goals in 109 appearances and holds the record for the most goals by an African player at the FIFA World Cup, with six strikes to his name.
