Kalidou Koulibaly has rallied Senegal’s determination ahead of their African Cup of Nations semifinal clash with Egypt on Wednesday, insisting that reaching the final overshadows any external distractions.
The Lions of Teranga face Egypt in a rematch of the 2022 final, where Sadio Mané’s Senegal claimed continental glory, adding significant weight to Wednesday’s encounter.
Despite seven Senegalese players facing suspension threats due to accumulated yellow cards, Koulibaly dismissed concerns about the disciplinary situation. “We will focus only on reaching the final. That’s our priority, so we won’t look at any other calculations, and our focus is solely on making our people happy,” the Al Hilal defender stated.
Acknowledging the card situation, Koulibaly maintained positivity: “Although we didn’t deserve some of the cards, we will try to avoid getting more.”
He emphasized the squad’s commitment, adding “Whoever participates will give 100 percent effort to qualify for the final. Our people’s dream will continue,” demonstrating unwavering resolve in pursuit of back-to-back African titles.
