Francis Onyeka returns to Elversberg training ahead of Leipzig clash
Francis Onyeka has made encouraging progress in his recovery from a foot ligament injury after returning to team training with SV Elversberg ahead of Saturday’s Bundesliga trip to RB Leipzig.
The 19-year-old attacking midfielder has resumed training with his teammates, according to a report by the Saarbrücker Zeitung, raising hopes that he could return to action sooner than initially anticipated.
Earlier this week, reports suggested that Onyeka could face an absence of up to four weeks, potentially ruling him out of Elversberg’s upcoming fixtures against Leipzig and Mainz 05.
However, his return to the training pitch represents a positive development after he missed the recent matches against Union Berlin and FC Augsburg.
Despite the progress, Onyeka’s availability for Saturday’s encounter remains uncertain. The extent of his participation in team training has not been confirmed, meaning head coach Vincent Wagner will need to assess his condition before deciding whether to include him in the matchday squad.
Before his injury, Onyeka had featured regularly for Elversberg, contributing an assist during his early appearances. His return would provide another attacking option for the Saarland club as they prepare for a challenging away fixture.
Elversberg travel to Leipzig on Saturday, October 24, with kick-off scheduled for 15:30 local time. Although Onyeka’s involvement remains in doubt, his return to team training offers renewed hope that his recovery is progressing well.
