South Africa midfielder Sipho Mbule says he and his teammates are relieved after securing a place in the last 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Bafana Bafana booked a place in the last 16 following a hard-fought victory over Zimbabwe in the final group game at the tournament. The high-stake clash ended 3-2, with South Africa finishing second in Group B behind Egypt.
South Africa will face Cameroon in the last 16 at AFCON after the latter beat Mozambique 2-1 to finish second in Group F.
However, Sipho Mbule, has expressed his joy in Bafana Bafana’s ability to go past the group stages in the continental showpiece.
“We are very much relieved. Everyone showed hunger, discipline and the will to win and to make it past the group stage,” Mbule said.
“Coach gave me some tools and advice for the second half, saying that I should move a little bit more and that I mustn’t stay too long with the defensive midfielder. With what he told me, I’m definitely going to use it going forward.” He said.
South Africa will lock horns with Cameroon on Sunday, January 4, 2025, with both teams seeking for qualification to the knockout stage.
