Nigeria defender Calvin Bassey is hoping his outfit can sustain their impressive form as the team prepares for the knockout stage of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The Super Eagles secured qualification for the knockout stage after a perfect run in Group C, winning all three of their matches to finish top of the group.
Nigeria wrapped up their Group C campaign with a convincing 3–1 victory over Uganda on Tuesday, a result that underlined the team’s consistency and attacking intent.
Speaking to Sporty TV, Bassey, who plies his trade for Fulham stressed the importance of maintaining the same intensity as the competition progresses.
“Same energy. You know, we’ve shown our quality in this group stage, and hopefully we can just keep building on this momentum.”
“This game was very important for us. Some people might have seen it like, ‘yeah, we’re already through,’” he explained. “But us, the players, we saw it as an opportunity to stamp a mark and show that, regardless of who we play, we’re going to give 100 per cent.”
Nigeria will now step up preparations as the Super Eagles shift full focus to their Round of 16 encounter against Mozambique at the Africa Cup of Nations.
