Benin assistant coach Niel Trabelsi insists his outfit will deliver a great performance against Egypt in the round 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Squirrels will face their Egyptian counterparts on Monday, January 5, at the Adrar Stadium in Agadir, with both teams seeking for qualification to the quarterfinals of the tournament, being held in Morocco.
Benin finished third with 3 points in Group D, securing qualification as one of the best 4 third-placed teams, while Senegal topped the group with 7 points, leading on goal difference over the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Pharaohs, who are seeking for the eighth AFCON laurel topped Group B, before identifying their last 16 opponent, which was decided by Benin.
Speaking to FilGoal.com, Niel Trabelsi stressed the difficulty of facing the Egypt in the round of 16 of the continental showpiece.
“Facing Egypt will be difficult, and they are the favorites to win on paper because of the experience and capabilities of their players, and we will give our all to qualify.”
“We know we will be playing against a giant of African football, and we respect Egypt, but we must not be afraid in order to put on a good performance.”
“After qualifying, our ambition has increased, and we will work to deliver a great performance against Egypt.”
The winner between Egypt and Benin will meet the winner between the leader of Group F (Cameroon, Ivory Coast or Mozambique).
