Victor Osimhen set for tests ahead of Kasımpaşa clash as Galatasaray assess injury
Victor Osimhen is set for medical tests as Galatasaray assess whether the Nigeria international can return to action against Kasımpaşa on Friday evening.
The striker has been sidelined since suffering an injury during Galatasaray’s 3-2 victory over İstanbul Başakşehir at the Başakşehir Fatih Terim Stadium.
Osimhen has subsequently missed three matches in all competitions against Kocaelispor, Trabzonspor and Sporting Lisbon as he continues his recovery.
With Friday’s league encounter approaching, Galatasaray are yet to determine whether their leading forward will be fit enough to feature.
Club doctor Yener İnce confirmed that Osimhen will undergo further examinations alongside teammates Wilfried Singo and Roland Sallai, with the results expected to guide the club’s decision.
“We will conduct tests on all three players, on Osimhen, on Singo, and on Sallai as well. We will make a decision based on the test results,” İnce said, according to Winner Galatasaray.
Galatasaray encouraged by recovery
Despite the uncertainty surrounding his return, İnce offered an encouraging assessment of Osimhen’s progress, revealing that the striker is responding positively to treatment.
The medical team has seen significant improvement in his condition over the past week to 10 days, increasing hopes that he could soon return to competitive action.
“But the treatment of all three is going very well. In other words, all three are in a much better condition now compared to 1 week – 10 days ago,” İnce said.
He added: “In other words, thank goodness, there is nothing going wrong with the treatments.”
The latest update will provide some relief for Galatasaray, who have been without one of their most influential attacking players during a crucial period of the season.
Osimhen keen to return
Osimhen had made a flying start to the campaign before the injury disrupted his momentum.
The former Napoli striker has scored six goals and registered two assists in just four league appearances, underlining his importance to Galatasaray’s attacking plans.
His absence also extended to the international stage during the recent break, when he missed Nigeria’s matches against Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau and Russia.
The striker has now resumed training with Galatasaray as he steps up his rehabilitation.
His return to team training represents an important milestone, although it does not guarantee that he will be cleared to face Kasımpaşa.
Galatasaray will therefore wait for the latest medical tests before making a final decision on the Nigerian forward.
A positive assessment could pave the way for Osimhen to return to the squad on Friday, while any concerns from the tests could see the club take a more cautious approach with their star striker.
