Ghana forward Inaki Williams slams decision to hold Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia

Ghana international Inaki Williams has expressed his discontent following the decision to hold the Spanish Super Cup in Saudi Arabia.

The Spanish Super Cup, which has been held in the Asia nation since the 2029/20 season will continue until 2029 following an agreement with the Spanish Football Federation.

The mini-tournament pits the winners of the league and runners-up to the champions of the Copa del Rey and the losing finalist.

However, Williams, who is the captain of Athletic Bilbao has expressed his displeasure, describing the decision as a crap.

“Playing in Saudi Arabia is crap, to put it plainly. It doesn’t make life easier for the fans. In essence, we’re playing away from home again. If the matches were held here, thousands of our supporters would travel with us,” said Iñaki.

“I’m going to have to leave, leaving my wife and newborn behind. It’s not easy, but that’s the price of the profession.”

The Spanish Super Cup semifinal between Athletic Bilbao and Barcelona will take place on January 7 in Saudi Arabia. The winner will play in the final on January 11 against the winner of Real Madrid vs Atlético Madrid.
