Benin midfielder Douko Dodo has embraced Egypt challenge after being paired in the Round of 16 of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The Squirrels qualified for the round of 16 of the continental showpiece in Morocco after finishing third in Group D and will face Egypt.
Before their final group game, the enterprising midfielder reiterated his desire to face Egypt in the last 16 at the expense of Morocco.
“I wished to face Egypt rather than Morocco, and we will work to put on a great match against the Pharaohs” Dodo told FilGoal.com.
“Playing in the Egyptian league has given me great experience that I will try to show in the next match.”
Benin suffered a 3-0 defeat against Senegal in the third round of Group D matches in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Benin finished third after their tally stopped at 3 points, securing qualification as one of the best 4 third-placed teams, while Senegal topped the group with 7 points, leading on goal difference over the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Egyptian national team topped Group B, before waiting for the third-place finisher in Group D, which was decided today by the Benin national team.
Egypt and Benin will meet in the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations next Monday, January 5, 2026.
