A Spanish press report has revealed possible interest from Barcelona in signing Ibrahim Maza, the versatile midfielder of Bayer Leverkusen and Algeria, who is currently shining at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
According to Spanish daily Mundo Deportivo, citing Algerian reports, Barca scouts will closely monitor Maza’s performance in Algeria’s clash with Equatorial Guinea on Wednesday in Group E, where the “Desert Warriors” top the standings with a perfect 6 points from two matches.
Born in Berlin in November 2005, Maza plays mainly as an attacking midfielder but can also operate as a second striker or out wide, giving coaches valuable tactical flexibility. Since joining Leverkusen last summer from Hertha Berlin, he has enjoyed an impressive season, scoring 4 goals and providing 3 assists in 21 appearances for the German side.
Leverkusen paid 12 million euros to sign him and secured his future with a contract running until 2030, a factor that significantly raises his market value and makes any potential deal financially complicated for Barcelona.
Even without official confirmation from the Catalan club, Maza’s name is expected to feature heavily in transfer discussions over the coming weeks, especially if he continues to deliver standout performances with Algeria at the continental tournament.
