Morocco coach Walid Regragui has set his sights firmly on the knockout stages of the African Cup of Nations after his team’s commanding 3-0 victory over Zambia, which secured their place in the round of 16.
Speaking at a post-match press conference, Regragui praised his squad’s determination.
“We performed very well because we had a strong desire to stay in Rabat, and that is what matters most,” he said.
“The fans gave incredible support, and the players showed great spirit, making amends after the disappointing draw with Mali.”
Looking ahead, the coach stressed that the tournament effectively starts anew in the knockout rounds.
“Every match from now on is like a final. We aim to go as far as possible and pursue our dream of winning the title for the first time in 50 years,” he said.
Regragui cautioned against complacency, adding, “We must keep our feet on the ground and remain focused.”
He also highlighted the importance of early goals.
“Scoring early sets the tone and changes the dynamics of the match. The team that wins the title will be the one most effective in attack,” he noted.
On squad management, Regragui explained the decision to rest left-back Anas Salah Eddine due to a minor hamstring issue and to protect Achraf Hakimi following his recovery.
“We have 28 players available, and every match will require careful selection. Each player must be ready physically and mentally whenever called upon,” he said.
With Morocco now through to the round of 16, Regragui’s message is clear: focus, discipline, and ambition will guide the Atlas Lions in their pursuit of continental glory.
