Algeria international Ibrahim Maza insists his outfit victory over Burkina Faso in the second group game of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is more important than individual awards.
The North African country triumphed over the Stallions in their second Group E clash on Saturday, thanks to Riyad Mahrez strike.
The experienced winger converted perfectly from the spot, as Algeria cruised to a narrow victory over Burkina Faso in a high-stake clash to progress to the last 16 of the tournament. It was his third goal for the Desert Foxes at the tournament, having netted a brace against Sudan in their opener.
Maza, who was named as the Man of the Match after game prioritizes the sides victory over Bukrina Faso than individual accolade.
“The victory was thanks to the team. I think everyone performed well, but the win is the most important thing. The goal was to qualify, not to win individual awards. We have officially qualified and we are happy with the work we have done.”
“We knew the match would be difficult because Burkina Faso is strong in tackles, and I think we largely succeeded in keeping up with them”
The North African country currently sit top of Group E, accumulating six points, while Burkina Faso and Sudan are tied on three points each after two matches.
