Nigeria’s Super Eagles intensified preparations ahead of their Group C opener against Tanzania, with midfielder Alex Iwobi expressing confidence that the team’s hard work will translate into the expected results.
Despite a light drizzle over the training ground, the squad maintained focus during a comprehensive session, fine-tuning tactics and building cohesion ahead of their first match of the tournament on Tuesday.
The coaching staff emphasized intensity and attention to detail, ensuring players adapt seamlessly to the demands of the Africa Cup of Nations.
Speaking to reporters before training, Iwobi reflected on Nigeria’s recent friendly defeat to Egypt, framing the result as a learning experience rather than a setback. “We lost a preseason game, but we took away some positives.
There were a lot of new faces, a lot of players adapting to the system and how the coach wanted us to play,” he explained.
“We continue to prepare and work hard. Now that the team is complete, I hope the preseason goes well and we get the results we’re hoping for.”
The Fulham midfielder highlighted the importance of integration and adaptation during friendly matches, noting that the preparation period allowed new players to acclimate to the squad’s style and tactical approach.
With the team now settled, Nigeria looks to channel that cohesion into a strong start at AFCON 2025.
The Super Eagles enter the match as clear favorites, drawing confidence from an unbeaten record against Tanzania.
In eight previous encounters, Nigeria has won five times and drawn three, a record that bolsters expectations for a successful opening performance.
Coach Eric Chelle’s squad combines experienced internationals with emerging talents, creating a balance designed to sustain performance across the tournament.
Iwobi’s remarks underline the team’s focus on preparation, resilience, and the collective objective of progressing deep into the competition.
As Nigeria readies to face the Taifa Stars, the squad’s mentality, tactical discipline, and confidence in their history against Tanzania set the stage for a compelling start to their AFCON 2025 campaign.
