Mamadou Mbacke is being linked with a move from Barça Atlètic to Swiss side Basel, with the likelihood of a deal currently rated at 53% according to the latest data.

The 23-year-old centre-back, valued at around €300k, is emerging as a potential low-cost defensive option for the Super League club, who are reportedly monitoring opportunities in Spain’s lower divisions. While no agreement has been reached, the figures involved and his contract situation at Barça Atlètic – with no fixed expiry date listed – leave open the possibility of a cut-price transfer or even a future free-agent move if the Catalan side decide not to retain him.

Mbacke, a right-footed Senegalese defender born in Rufisque on 21 November 2002, has spent the past few seasons moving between Spain and the United States. After time at Montverde Academy, he joined Los Angeles FC and had loan spells with Las Vegas Lights FC and Villarreal CF B before transferring to Barça Atlètic. That pathway has given him experience in MLS, the USL Championship and Spain’s Segunda Federación – a mix that may appeal to Basel as they look for physically strong, mobile defenders comfortable in different tactical environments.

His market value has fluctuated sharply in recent years, peaking at €2.8m during his Villarreal CF B stint before gradually dropping to its current €300k at Barça Atlètic. That decline could represent an opportunity for Basel to buy relatively low on a player who was once considered a significant prospect and who has already been trusted by clubs in both La Liga and MLS systems.

If Basel press ahead and an agreement is found, this move would offer Mbacke a fresh stage in the Swiss top flight and the chance to reignite his trajectory in European football, potentially reshaping both his reputation and long-term prospects.
