The 23-year-old centre-back, valued at around €300k, is emerging as a potential low-cost defensive option for the Super League club, who are reportedly monitoring opportunities in Spain’s lower divisions. Mbacke, a right-footed Senegalese defender born in Rufisque on 21 November 2002, has spent the past few seasons moving between Spain and the United States. After time at Montverde Academy, he joined Los Angeles FC and had loan spells with Las Vegas Lights FC and Villarreal CF B before transferring to Barça Atlètic. That pathway has given him experience in MLS, the USL Championship and Spain’s Segunda Federación – a mix that may appeal to Basel as they look for physically strong, mobile defenders comfortable in different tactical environments.
His market value has fluctuated sharply in recent years, peaking at €2.8m during his Villarreal CF B stint before gradually dropping to its current €300k at Barça Atlètic.
