Ruben Amorim considering formation change to give English-Ghanaian Kobbie Mainoo more playing time
Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has hinted at a major tactical overhaul to integrate Kobbie Mainoo into his starting eleven.
The Portuguese manager is considering a structural shift to provide the teenager with more consistent playing time. This potential change comes directly ahead of tonight’s vital Premier League clash against Bournemouth at Old Trafford.
Amorim appears ready to adapt his preferred formation to harness the young midfielder’s specific talents. He acknowledged that the current setup may be restricting the player’s immediate opportunities within the starting lineup.
The talented youngster holds Ghanaian heritage through his family but has already made a significant mark with the England national team.
He is currently the subject of intense winter transfer speculation as the January window quickly approaches. Despite rumors of a mid-season departure, Amorim seems focused on finding a permanent place for him at the club.
Amorim specifically addressed the limitations of his current two-man midfield pairing in a recent press briefing.
“The problem is we are playing with two (in midfield) and you guys see Kobbie in a different way than I’m seeing,” said Amorim. “Maybe if you play with three midfielders, not with just two, Kobbie will have more minutes.
“Imagine that this happens. Someone in front is going to lose their spot. Sometimes it’s just the moment.
“I think I proved that if you change my mind (you can get into the team). Casemiro is the biggest example. He was behind Toby (Collyer) and now he is a starter.”
