Man United boss Amorim hails Ghana forward Antoine Semenyo as ‘a special player’ but denies January interest
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim offered high praise for Antoine Semenyo on Monday. The Red Devils’ boss clearly holds the Bournemouth forward in high regard.
His comments came just before United’s scheduled clash with the Cherries at Old Trafford tonight. Despite his warm commendation of the Ghanaian international, Amorim firmly shut down talk of a pending January transfer move.
Speculation had mounted that United were preparing to activate a significant release clause in the player’s contract next month.
Amorim directly addressed the intense transfer rumors in his pre-match media briefing. He was quick to deny any immediate pursuit of the talented attacker.
“No, it’s not that case,” the Portuguese coach stated about the transfer reports. “I think there is a lot of special players in the league.”
The Manchester United chief summarized his admiration for the opposition. “What I feel is, to summarise, top manager, top team,” Amorim noted.
“I really like the team and the top player.” Ultimately, his highest individual compliment was reserved for the 25-year-old forward. “I think he is a special player,” the United boss concluded.
The persistent transfer narrative is driven by Semenyo’s current contractual situation. His contract with the South Coast club contains a substantial buyout clause.
This clause, valued at a reported £65 million, becomes active very soon. Any interested club can trigger the fee during the first two weeks of the upcoming January transfer market.
This short window means Semenyo’s future remains a prominent point of speculation across the football world.
