Dominik Szoboszlai has stressed that the simmering tension between Mohamed Salah and Liverpool is a personal matter for the Egyptian star and the club, not something that involves the rest of the squad.

Salah was left out of the starting XI for three straight Premier League games and then completely omitted from the Champions League clash with Inter Milan, where Szoboszlai scored a late winning penalty.

The Hungarian midfielder, speaking to the Independent, said he is very close to Salah and described him as both a teammate and a friend, but insisted that only Salah can decide his future amid strong interest from the Saudi Pro League.

“I am very close to him. The players have nothing to do with it. The decision is his alone and what he wants to do with his life and career. I think it has nothing to do with the players, so there is nothing for me to say about it,” he said.

Szoboszlai declined to reveal whether he wanted Salah to stay, adding: “It’s not a decision for us as players. I like him as a person and as a friend. As a player, he has given a lot to this club, so the decision will be between the club and him.

The article also recaps Salah’s explosive recent comments, where he complained about being benched, claimed he felt the club had abandoned him, and suggested someone inside Liverpool no longer wants him there, all while he prepares to join Egypt for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
