Jamie Carragher accuses Mohamed Salah of trying to push Arne Slot out
Former Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher has branded Mohamed Salah’s recent outburst “a disgrace”, but says he still hopes the Egyptian has not played his last game for the club.
Liverpool left Salah out of the squad to face Inter Milan in the Champions League after he publicly declared he no longer had any relationship with head coach Arne Slot and claimed the club had “thrown him under the bus” by benching him for a third straight match.
Carragher, who was mentioned directly in Salah’s interview, argued on Monday Night Football that the comments were calculated rather than emotional, insisting the forward only stops in the mixed zone when his agent has coordinated it to maximise impact and strengthen his own position. He suggested Salah deliberately waited for a bad result so that “everyone at Liverpool felt on the floor” before launching an attack on the coach, seeing it as an attempt to topple Slot from his job.
Despite his fierce criticism, Carragher agreed with the club’s decision to leave Salah at home for the Inter trip and admitted he is unsure whether the winger will wear the shirt again, though he hopes he does, calling him one of the greatest players in Liverpool’s history and warning that if he keeps reacting like this every time he is left out, “who knows what will happen?”.
