Samuel Eto’o insulted me because he saw me as a THREAT – Former Cameroon coach Marc Brys
Former Cameroon coach Marc Brys has opened up about his dismissal from the Indomitable Lions, citing a strained relationship with Cameroon Football Federation president Samuel Eto’o.
Brys was relieved of his duties just days after Eto’o’s re-election as Fecafoot president last weekend, leaving him without the chance to lead Cameroon to the 2026 FIFA World Cup or the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations.
“Eto’o always tried to sideline me as quickly as possible,” Brys said, as per Africa Top Sport.
“From the very first minute, he insulted me, and I responded. I was too big a threat for him.”
The Belgian coach added that the working environment was fraught with tension.
“I have other ambitions than constantly being on edge. It’s too aggressive, too deceptive. I’ve had enough. Too much negativity to work properly.
Reflecting on the experience, Brys described it as a valuable lesson despite the challenges.
“It served as a lesson. I recommend the experience to everyone, but it shouldn’t last too long. Either you are afraid and refuse to engage in the fight, or you see it as an enriching experience.
“Becoming Cameroon’s coach was a challenge for me. We’ll see what the consequences will be,” he added.
Following Brys’ departure, Cameroon has appointed David Pagou as the new head coach.
