Ibrahim Adel named on bench for FC Nordsjælland’s Danish league meeting with Sønderjyske

Egypt international Ibrahim Adel has been named among the substitutes for FC Nordsjælland’s Danish league match away to Sønderjyske.

The forward was involved in FC Nordsjælland’s most recent European fixture, creating the winning goal against FC St.Gallen 1879 in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League qualifying tie on Thursday.

He will not start against Sønderjyske, with the match being played away from FC Nordsjælland’s home ground and scheduled for 13:00 Cairo time.

The decision to leave Adel on the bench may have been made with the second leg against the Swiss side in mind. FC Nordsjælland are due to travel to Switzerland for that match next Thursday, when the teams will contest the decisive fixture for a place in the next stage of the competition.

Adel’s omission from the starting line-up comes after he played a part in securing the advantage in the opening match of the European tie. His contribution against FC St.Gallen 1879 was his latest involvement for the Danish club since joining in January.

The 23-year-old has already proved a regular threat against Sønderjyske. He has scored twice in the two matches he has played against them, meaning the Danish side are familiar with his ability to influence this particular fixture.

Those two goals form part of the four Adel has scored since moving to FC Nordsjælland in January. Although he is not in the starting XI this time, he remains available as a substitute should manager selected to use him during the match.

FC Nordsjælland’s decision also leaves Adel positioned to potentially contribute in the closing stages before the club turns its attention back to European football. The return match against FC St.Gallen 1879 will take place at the Swiss team’s stadium next Thursday, with qualification to be settled over the two legs.

For now, Adel will watch the Danish league contest from the bench, rather than leading the attack from the start. His previous record against Sønderjyske, together with his assist in the first leg against the Swiss club, ensures he remains one of the notable attacking options available to FC Nordsjælland during the match.
