AFCON 2025: Uganda coach Paul Put names squad featuring rising star James Bogere
Uganda coach Paul Put unveiled his squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations as the Cranes intensified preparations for the continent’s biggest football event.
The team enters the tournament with a blend of established names, overseas-based talent and emerging prospects.
Put selects a group that spans local leagues, African clubs and footballers active abroad.
He places trust in experienced figures such as Denis Onyango, who returns to the national setup from Mamelodi Sundowns and strengthens the goalkeeping unit with his leadership and familiarity with high-pressure competition.
The squad also includes one of Uganda’s brightest prospects. James Bogere steps up to the senior national team for the first time after playing a central role in the Cranes’ qualification for the U17 World Cup.
The young forward now joins a senior attack led by Mato Rogers, who continues to shine with FK Vardar in North Macedonia and brings sharpness in the final third.
Uganda competes in Group C alongside Nigeria, Tunisia and Tanzania, a challenging pool that demands discipline, depth and consistency throughout the tournament.
