Mohamed Salah fires back at Jamie Carragher after Leeds United benching
After spending the entire match against Leeds United on the bench, an emotional Mohamed Salah opened up about the criticism he expected to face from Jamie Carragher.
Salah said he knew “tomorrow Carragher is going to go for me again and again,” but insisted he was ready for it.
He pointed to his record since arriving in the Premier League, stressing that he had scored and assisted more than anyone in his generation and felt he deserved a different kind of treatment.
Salah complained that, unlike other stars, he did not feel publicly defended, arguing that if he played for another club, people in the media would stand up for him instead of calling for him to be benched.
“In the whole Premier League. If I am somewhere else, everybody would go to the media and defend the players. I am the only one in this situation.”
To illustrate his point, Salah recalled a period when Harry Kane went ten games without scoring and still received widespread backing and patience in the media. He contrasted that with the way some pundits reacted to his own short dip in form, repeatedly suggesting he should be dropped, which left him feeling singled out despite everything he had already achieved for Liverpool.
“Can I give an example? It’s silly but I am sorry. I remember a while go, Harry Kane was not scoring for ten games, everyone in the media was like, ‘Oh, Harry will score for sure.’ When it comes to Mo, everyone is like, ‘He needs to be on the bench.’ I am sorry Harry!”
Salah 33, has started 12 games, scored four goals and assisted two in the Premier League this season.
