Mahmoud El Khatib, president of Al Ahly, will hold a crucial meeting on Monday with Danish coach Jess Thorup to settle the club’s plans for the upcoming winter transfer window.

A source told Kooora that the football director and board member Sayed Abdelhafiz will also attend what is seen as the key session for finalising the squad’s needs and closing priority deals.

The same source explained that Thorup is ready to make his final choices from a shortlist of names proposed in recent weeks, with Ahly aiming to sign four players in January: a striker, a left back, a centre back and a midfielder. These moves are also being prepared with the possible departure of Aliou Dieng in mind, as the Malian has yet to respond to the club’s contract renewal offer before joining his national team.

Ahly are described as being close to wrapping up at least one signing before the end of the week, once Thorup confirms his preferred options in every position, especially with initial agreements already in place with several targets. Meanwhile, the Red Devils continue training at the youth sector pitches in Nasr City as they get ready to face ENPPI on Thursday in the opening round of the Egypt Capital Cup.
