Kasper Hjulmand couldn’t hide his admiration for Ibrahim Maza after the young midfielder’s match-winning goal secured Bayer Leverkusen’s 1-0 DFB-Pokal victory over Borussia Dortmund.

The 20-year-old shone brightly on Tuesday, proving his growing impact not just in this tense knockout clash but throughout recent games. Hjulmand highlighted Maza’s rapid progress and dedication as key to his breakout.

The coach raved about Ibrahim Maza’s quick learning curve. “He learns so quickly. He’s so good to work with. He’s always attentive and always wants to take the next step,” he said.

“He still has a lot to learn and so many opportunities to improve. His development is outstanding. This is mainly due to his personality – he always wants to improve and learn,” he added.

Sporting director Simon Rolfes also commended Maza’s professionalism. “He trains exceptionally well, observing players like Grimaldo to learn how to behave like a true professional. He’s eager to improve. He’s tenacious in challenges and a superb footballer,”

Maza now eyes another chance to impress in Saturday’s Bundesliga trip to FC Augsburg.
