Rafik Guitane shines in statement performance against Porto
Algerian winger Rafik Guitane delivered one of his best displays of the season in Portugal, standing out for Estoril in a narrow 1–0 defeat away to giants Porto.
The 26-year-old, currently in Qatar with the Algeria A’ national team, has been fighting to regain rhythm and confidence after a difficult half-season at Braga and a bumpy return to Estoril.
Since coming back, Guitane has struggled to lock down a starting spot, beginning only six of Estoril’s twelve league matches, whether used as a second striker alongside Begraoui or out on the right wing. Even so, he has responded whenever called upon, contributing two goals and two assists in limited minutes.
Against Porto, he was finally trusted with the full 90 minutes for the first time this season, and he seized the opportunity.
Constantly demanding the ball, he repeatedly beat his man in one‑v‑one situations and created several dangerous openings, and if not for his teammates’ poor finishing he could easily have finished the night with two assists to his name.
