German gaffer Ernst Middendorp linked with vacant Durban City coaching job

German tactician Ernst Middendorp has emerged as a potential candidate for the vacant managerial role at South African side, Durban City following the departure of Gavin Hunt.

The Kwa-Zulu Natal side is currently without a coach following the sacking of Gavin Hunt after just four months spell at the club.

However, Middendorp, who is well-versed in African football is considered for the Durban City coaching job. The German gaffer is unattached and possibly open for a return to the team he left two months ago.

Durban City chairman Farouk Kadodia is a known admirer of Middendorp and a return to his club’s dugout by the former Kaizer Chiefs and Moroka Swallows coach is not a far-fetched idea.

But on the flipside, it was rather surprising to see Hunt vacate his position given the healthy state the club in on the Premiership standings.

Currently, Durban City are eighth on the Premiership standings with 19 points after 14 games. For a team that is in its first season in the South African top-flight after gaining promotion from the National First Division, this is a feat to proud of.

But Kadodia appears not to be pleased with Hunt’s performance, leading to his sacking after the sides 2-0 defeat to Orlando Pirates.

The club’s next fixture is a trip to the North West to battle fellow rookies Orbit College FC on Wednesday, 3 December at Olympia Park, Rustenburg.
