The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has referred the incidents from the second round of CAF Champions League group-stage matches to its Disciplinary Committee after serious crowd trouble in two high-profile fixtures.
CAF said it strongly condemns the major security breaches that took place during the games between Morocco’s AS FAR Rabat and Egypt’s Al Ahly, and between Algeria’s JS Kabylie and Tanzania’s Young Africans on 28 November 2025.
CAF confirmed that these cases have been formally handed to its disciplinary body for investigation, with potential sanctions to follow once reports from match officials and security delegates are reviewed. The clashes in Rabat and Algeria involved disturbing scenes of fan unrest around the stadiums, prompting fresh concerns about safety at African club competitions.
Al Ahly had already sent an official letter to CAF asking for strict implementation of safety measures before every game, urging clear security plans that reflect the status of African football.
The Egyptian club also called for VAR to be used in all Champions League matches and for high-stakes, high-attendance games to be handled only by elite referees who are also registered with FIFA. On the pitch, AS FAR’s clash with Al Ahly ended 1-1, while JS Kabylie and Young Africans played out a goalless draw.
