Swedish-Eritrean forward Alexander Isak nets first Premier League goal for Liverpool
Sweden international of Eritrean descent Alexander Isak has netted his debut Premier League goal for Liverpool.
The 26-year-old forward, who joined the Reds in the summer started and played for 68 minutes as his outfit cruised to a 2-0 away win over West Ham United on Sunday.
Isak played a pivotal role by registering his name on the scoresheet, as Liverpool snapped their losing streak. The forward opened the scoring in the 60th-minute mark before Cody Gakpo scored to cement victory in stoppage time.
The former Newcastle United star can heave a sigh of relief after ending his goal drought in the Premier League. Isak had netted only one goal for Liverpool since his arrival, with the strike coming from the League Cup.
Interestingly, Isak also avoided setting a new personal record for the longest goalless run. He had gone seven straight Premier League matches without scoring, matching a similar drought from April to May 2023.
The 26-year-old striker has made six appearances in the Premier League, scoring one goal and delivering an assists across the period. Having found the net for the first time in the Premier League for Liverpool, Isak will be hoping to maintain momentum in subsequent games.
