I want to win every trophy with Mamelodi Sundowns – Portuguese midfielder Nuno Santos
Mamelodi Sundowns’ fast-rising Portuguese midfielder Nuno Santos has made his ambitions clear, declaring that his mission at the club is to fight for every trophy on offer.
The former Vitoria Guimarães player joined the Brazilians in September and has already made a strong impression, scoring twice in their 3-1 CAF Champions League victory over Saint-Éloi Lupopo on Saturday.
Speaking after the win at Loftus Versfeld, the 26-year-old shared his hunger for success and his commitment to approaching each challenge with focus.
“I want to win everything. Obviously, I’m a person who thinks about the next game. Always in the next game and not so much about the future. The goal is there, and the mind is there. But game by game, we’re going to get there,” said Santos.
Santos explained that his decision to join Sundowns stemmed from the club’s strong desire to sign him and the opportunity to reach new heights both in South Africa and on the continent.
“Because it’s the biggest club in South Africa, one of the biggest in Africa. I felt like the club really wanted me. So when you feel that, it’s way more easier to make those types of decisions. They welcomed me very well as well. I’m thankful for all the people that are making me feel at home since I came,” he continued.
The presence of Portuguese head coach Miguel Cardoso has also eased his transition, providing familiarity and guidance as he adapts to a new environment.
“It has influence, of course, because he’s a Portuguese coach. It’s easier when you are in Portugal, in Europe. There’s not so many players that come to South Africa. And to have a Portuguese coach that speaks the same language and can advise me how things are here, it was way more easier for me,” he admitted.
Santos will be expected to start for Mamelodi Sundowns in their next CAF Champions League clash against MC Alger on Friday.
