Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman accuses Atalanta of broken promises amid transfer dispute

Newly appointed head coach of Atalanta Raffaele Palladino is counting on counting on Nigeria international Ademola Lookman amid turbulent transfer battle.

Lookman remains keen about departure after missing out on a move during the summer transfer window, with several clubs including Fenerbahçe and other European clubs lining up a January move for the attacker.

However, one of Palladino’s immediate concerns is restoring calm in a squad unsettled by Lookman’s unresolved future.

The winger has yet to rediscover his best form after Atalanta rejected a €45 million summer bid from Inter Milan, insisting on a €50 million valuation. The tension contributed to the club’s poor start, with seven league games now without a win.

Palladino revealed he has already contacted the 28-year-old, who recently returned from international duty with Nigeria, stressing that a strong performances in training will determine Lookman’s role.

“Lookman is crucial… I called him… He presented himself very well. I’ll evaluate his role based on how he performs in training”

Despite Jurić’s dismissal, Lookman’s frustrations have not fully eased after their touchline clash during the Champions League game against Marseille on 5 November. Although his contract runs until 2027, he is reportedly open to leaving, and Atalanta are no longer ruling out a January sale—especially with his AFCON duty approaching.

Turkey’s giants Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe are preparing rival bids, with Galatasaray reportedly offering a €9 million-per-year contract. Atletico Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur, who pursued him last summer, are also monitoring the situation.

Atalanta may soften their €50 million asking price if his form does not improve soon, making the coming weeks decisive for both Lookman and the club’s season.
