Manchester United have reportedly entered the race to sign Ajax midfielder Jorthy Mokio, targeting the 17-year-old as part of their 2026 summer transfer plans.

Born in Belgium to Congolese parents, Mokio has already made waves as one of Europe’s most promising midfield prospects, attracting attention from top clubs across the continent.

United are looking to strengthen their midfield as they anticipate the eventual departures of Bruno Fernandes and Casemiro, both of whom may be in their final season at Old Trafford.

The club is exploring long-term projects alongside established targets like Elliot Anderson and Carlos Baleba, each valued at over £100 million.

Mokio, who made his Ajax debut at just 16—the second youngest in Eredivisie history after Clarence Seedorf—is considered a versatile talent capable of excelling in multiple midfield roles.

He also debuted for Belgium at 17, reinforcing his status as a rising star.

Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri reports Ajax are under pressure to secure Mokio, who has yet to commit to a new contract and is reportedly keen to advance his career elsewhere.

Manchester United’s recruitment team, led by Christopher Vivell, has identified him as an ideal fit for Ruben Amorim’s system, favouring players who can contribute defensively and offensively.

Other clubs, including Newcastle United and Eintracht Frankfurt, are also monitoring Mokio, but Manchester United appear to hold an advantage.

European football writer Michael Yokhin praised the youngster’s vision, passing range, defensive work, and versatility.

Mokio’s ability to play in multiple positions, from full-back to central midfield, aligns with United’s strategic plan to build a long-term midfield core capable of sustaining success in domestic and European competitions.
