Algeria holds firm in FIFA rankings ahead of 2025 AFCON campaign
Algeria has retained 35th place in the latest FIFA world rankings released on 19 November 2025, maintaining its standing following consecutive victories over Zimbabwe and Saudi Arabia during the international window in Jeddah.
The results ensured Vladimir Petkovic’s side preserved both their global and continental positions as they move closer to the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The national team remains fourth in Africa and third in the Arab world, a placement that underscores recent progress but also highlights the importance of a strong showing at the upcoming AFCON.
With the continental tournament approaching, Ismaël Bennacer and his teammates will be under increased scrutiny as they seek to climb higher in the global table.
Within the African top ten, Morocco continues to lead the continent, followed by Senegal, while Egypt sits in third place.
Algeria occupies fourth position, ahead of Nigeria in fifth and Tunisia in sixth.
These rankings carry significant weight, particularly as they will be used in determining the seedings for the 2026 World Cup draw scheduled for 5 December in Washington.
Globally, Spain maintains its hold at the summit of the men’s ranking list. Argentina remain close behind, with France in third.
England retain fourth place, while Brazil move back into fifth after their 1-1 draw with Tunisia in Lille.
The rest of the top ten is made up of Portugal, the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, and Croatia.
Italy, however, slips from ninth to twelfth, continuing a downward trend.
For Algeria, attention now shifts fully to their preparations for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, which will be played from 21 December to 18 January.
The tournament will serve as an important test for Petkovic’s squad, who will be aiming not only for a deep run but also for performances capable of lifting the team further up the FIFA rankings in the next update.
With the global hierarchy tightening and the margins between teams narrowing, Algeria’s task will be to build on the momentum of recent results and deliver the level of consistency required to sustain their rise on both the continental and world stage.
