2025 CAF Awards: Yassine Bounou wins Goalkeeper of the Year award

Moroccan shot-stopper Yassine Bounou has been crowned the Best Goalkeeper at the 2025 CAF Awards, held in Rabat on Wednesday.

Bounou, who currently plays for Al Hilal, is widely regarded as one of Africa’s finest goalkeepers and has been central to Morocco’s recent successes.

He played a pivotal role in the Atlas Lions’ historic run of 18 consecutive victories and their semifinal appearance at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, making Morocco the only African and Arab nation to reach that milestone.

His consistent performances have also helped propel Morocco to 11th in the FIFA rankings, the highest position ever achieved by an African nation.

This is Bonou’s second triumph as CAF’s Goalkeeper of the Year, having previously claimed the prize in 2023.

Bounou’s award adds to a night of honours for Moroccan football, which also saw Doha El Madani, Othmane Maamma, and the U-20 Men’s team receive top accolades.
