Carlo Ancelotti, renowned for his cautious praise, recently caused a stir in African football with his latest remarks.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Brazil national team coach singled out Morocco and Senegal as teams capable of shaking up the world order at the 2026 World Cup.

Ancelotti’s opinion carries weight; as a top coach, he knows what elite competition requires. He believes the next World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico will be full of surprises and sees Africa as a likely source. Reflecting on Morocco’s historic 2022 run, where they became the first African nation to reach the semifinals, Ancelotti said this wasn’t an accident but proof of consistent tactical growth and rising individual talent. “Morocco continues to progress. This is a disciplined, organized team with players shining in the top leagues,” he explained.

He also praised Senegal, who recently beat England 3-1, as a team demanding respect. Ancelotti supports expanding to 48 teams, predicting that this change will open the door for new football schools to emerge, making this World Cup unique and challenging for all.
