Ex-Nigeria midfielder Mutiu Adepoju praises Super Eagles fighting spirit in 4-1 win over Gabon

Former Super Eagles midfielder Mutiu Adepoju has applauded Nigeria’s determination and character in their 4-1 extra-time win over Gabon in the 2026 World Cup qualifying playoffs on Thursday.

Adepoju praised the team’s overall display and highlighted the shift in momentum across the match.

“It was a good performance for the Super Eagles in the extra time. Nigeria dominated the first half, while the Gabonese came out stronger in the second half, and they scored the equalising goal to take the game to extra time.

“But it was surprising for me that the players got fired up, and they got three more goals, making it four goals. It was a very good performance, and the reactions from the players were very good as well,” he told Sporty TV.

Nigeria now turn their focus to the playoff final against D.R. Congo on Sunday. A win will see the Super Eagles qualify for the intercontinental playoff to keep hopes of playing at next year’s global tournament alive.
