Manchester United plans to send promising 19-year-old midfielder Sekou Kone out on loan in the January transfer window, according to German journalist Christopher Michel.

Kone, signed from Guidars in Mali after an impressive showing at the U-17 World Cup in 2023, has yet to make his senior debut due to several injury setbacks, including a recent eye socket issue with the U21s.

The Red Devils want Kone to gain regular first-team experience elsewhere, aiming to accelerate his development. Despite the challenges, the club was impressed by his performances on their preseason tour under manager Ruben Amorim.

Kone’s move from Mali was driven by his potential, with Manchester United hoping he could round into a regular contributor over time. With competition for places in United’s midfield high, the club sees a loan spell as the best way to get him valuable minutes and recover form after injuries.

The loan destination has not yet been finalized, but United is actively looking for opportunities where Kone can grow and return stronger, ready to compete for a place in the first team.
