Nigeria players resume training after bonus dispute is resolved
The Nigeria national football team has returned to training just in time for their crucial World Cup qualifier playoff against Gabon, following a brief boycott over unpaid bonuses.
The stoppage caught fans and officials off guard as the team prepared for one of their most important matches in Morocco.
Players refused to train amid frustration over more than six years of backlogged compensation. However, after negotiations with the Football Federation, the issue was settled: all overdue bonuses were paid in full. Team captain William Troost-Ekong announced the breakthrough, saying, “Issue RESOLVED. Outstanding financials cleared and on ground. Team is UNITED and focussed as before on representing NIGERIA with our maximum for the games ahead!”
With the financial matter finally behind them, the Super Eagles can shift their attention back to training and match preparations.
The episode highlighted ongoing challenges facing African teams around player compensation but also showcased the unity within the squad when it matters most. As Nigeria now looks ahead to the upcoming playoff, fans hope the team’s renewed focus will help secure a spot at the World Cup.
