England manager Thomas Tuchel confident on Marc Guehi’s recovery ahead of Serbia clash

England manager Thomas Tuchel has provided an encouraging update on Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi as he recovers from a recent injury.

Guehi, born in Abidjan, Ivory Coast, represents England internationally.

The 25-year-old missed Sunday’s 0-0 draw with Brighton after Palace boss Oliver Glasner revealed he “can’t even walk,” shocking fans of the pivotal Eagles defender.

Speaking ahead of England’s World Cup qualifier against Serbia, Tuchel confirmed that Guehi is progressing well despite the short recovery period.

“With Marc it is very painful but there is no structural damage, so it is all about the pain.

“There is a possibility that overnight from one day to the next that we have a significant improvement,” Tuchel said.

The German manager explained that Guehi’s participation will depend on training sessions later this week.

“If he is not in training, let’s say, on Friday or Saturday, then we will not make him travel. Then he gets rest and treatment and can stay in London,” he added.

Tuchel praised Guehi’s importance to the squad, highlighting his leadership and ability to connect players.

“He is one of the leaders, an important member of the team, an important glue between many players. It is nice to see.

“He tries everything to be included in the second match and we wanted to have the opportunity, that is why we assess him every day.”

Guehi has attracted significant transfer interest. Liverpool were close to signing him in the summer for £35 million before Crystal Palace opted to retain him.

His contract expires at the end of the season, with Barcelona, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich also linked.

Reports suggest Liverpool may return in January, making his recovery a critical development for both club and country.
